It’s a beautiful day in Art Cat’s neighborhood! Together we will explore being kind to our neighbors through art-making. Learn how creating for others can be an expression of compassion, kindness, and lots of fun! Draw, paint, and collage works of art for your family or friends; collaborate on a performance to share with fellow campers; and design and operate a kindness mobile.

Play with paint all week long! Learn a variety of painting techniques and color-mixing strategies while you play. Explore different paintable surfaces, from paper and canvas to found materials. Use marbles, straws, hands, toys, and other imaginative tools to create interesting textures and playful creations while you spray, splatter, and scrape all things paint. Collaborate with your fellow campers to create a classroom mural and show off your creations in a playful art show at the end of the week.

Explore nature’s wild, weird, and wacky wonders. Investigate flying mammals, bizarre horns, and mixed-up dinosaurs. Scout through Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems to find minerals that look like cookies, French fries, stars, and bubbles. Test out the science of food to find out what makes Jell-O transform from a liquid to a solid, and sink your teeth—literally—into a yeast experiment with rising bread!

Become an architect for animals, a designer for dolls, or a carpenter for cuddly things! From the grandeur of the Hall of Architecture to the museum’s exquisite miniatures and furniture collection, finding ideas to shape the ideal environment for your toy is easy. Go on a quest to find animals in their habitats and read stories to find more inspiration. Draw sketches, design floor plans, create models, and then build a tiny home for your favorite toy. Your toys receive their very own key to their new homes on the last day of camp!

Push, pull, and squish clay into anything you can imagine—from a bowl that you can actually use to sculpted figures of your pet or an imaginative creature of your own design. Try out the potter’s wheel and learn hand-building techniques, inspired by artists in the museum collection. Use colorful glazes to give your work a personal touch. Projects will be fired and available for pickup three to four weeks after camp. Materials fee included in price.

Meet weird prehistoric creatures and some of nature’s coolest critters. Get your hands on mystery slime, observe a slithery snake, and more! Examine the movements, habitats, and senses of animals with daily experiments. Build an obstacle course for worms. Get creative with chemistry to test scientific phenomena as you mix emulsions and test what floats in slimy substances.

Come and catch them all! Join Pokéteam Carnegie to explore the natural world of Pokémon. Learn about different Pokémon and examine their habitats to discover what makes them strong. Meet entomologists and compare the life cycle of Pokébugs to real insects. Build and hatch your own creature egg. Create your own Poké Ball and Pokémon creature based on real features of amazing animals. Go on museum and Schenley Park quests to find Pokémon.

Come one, come all to the best show in town—a circus created entirely by YOU! Circus-master Art Cat has created a gallery search designed to inspire campers to create costumes, design and paint sets, and plan a performance for the last day of camp! Read circus-themed stories, sing songs, sketch your ideas, practice your best tricks, and enjoy the art-filled show all week long! Families are invited to attend the circus performance on the last day of camp!

Enter the world of the dinosaurs as you dive into the prehistoric ecosystems in the exhibition Dinosaurs in Their Time. Perform hands-on investigations with mud, rocks, minerals, and fossils. Compare the skulls and teeth of predators and prey, and learn how dinosaurs digested food. Study specimens and then predict colors and patterns of dinosaur skin. Watch your own dinosaur adaptations evolve as you make a “Me-a-saurus.”

Art Cat is ready to party! Create the ultimate art party with fun and unique materials. Search the galleries for your favorite artworks and artists to “invite” to your art-filled party! Make your own art party decorations, paint a party portrait, create party favors, design invitations, and sculpt your own party food inspired by your museum adventures. Invite your family to an end-of-the-week celebration of all things art!

Meet animals from the museum’s Living Collection, and create a fantastical Seussical Zoo.

Discover the amazing creatures living in and around your home! Explore nearby Schenley Park to look for insects, amphibians, and reptiles. Hunt for insects in leaf litter, go on a mammal scavenger hunt, and make beautiful music as part of a bird symphony. Conduct plant pigment experiments, and dissect fruits and vegetables. Uncover micro mysteries using magnifiers and a video microscope.

Wiggle (and squiggle) your way through the galleries to find ideas for your experiments. Journey into the wonder of the natural world as an artist and explorer. Take nature walks, sketch, draw, and journey through the museum galleries and discover how artists are inspired and fascinated by the world around them. Venture outdoors to see sculptures installed around the museum, and visit Phipps Conservatory to sketch textures, shapes, and collect colors inspired by nature. Use your senses to paint, sketch, design, and transform your ideas into your own outdoor artwork.
