Ages 6–7

Push, pull, and squish clay into anything you can imagine—from a bowl you can actually use to sculpted figures of your pet, or an imaginative creature of your own design. Try out the potter’s wheel and learn hand-building techniques inspired by artists in the museum collection. Use colorful underglazes to give your work a personal touch. Projects will be fired and available for pick-up 3–-4 weeks later. Materials fee included in price.

Come and catch them all! Join Pokéteam Carnegie to explore the natural world of Pokémon. Learn about different Pokémon and examine their habitats to discover what makes them strong. Meet entomologists and compare the life cycle of Pokébugs to real insects. Build and hatch your own creature egg. Create your own Poké Ball and Pokémon creature based on real features of amazing animals. Go on museum and Schenley Park quests to find Pokémon.

Conduct hands-on investigations of mud, rocks, minerals, and fossils. Enjoy edible experiments that demonstrate how rocks and minerals form. Take a hike to nearby Schenley Park to examine historic rock layers, and hunt for specimens to start your own collection. Study the fluorescent properties of different materials to inspire your own glow-in-the-dark design. Use rocks to create your own musical instrument and discover the many ways geology rocks!

The 2020 Olympics just got wild! Find out who goes for the gold across the animal kingdom. Is a flea or a kangaroo better at the high jump? The Animal Olympics wouldn’t be complete without a medal ceremony—so lace up your sneakers and come join the fun!

Join Art Cat on a color adventure! Mix colored paint, build with colorful materials, draw with colored pencils, and experiment with colorful oil pastels. Find inspiration in the most colorful artworks in the collection. Choose a path through the gallery to look at blue or red paintings. Learn about the color wheel and how and why artists choose colors. Create artworks of your own in your favorite colors and have a celebration of all things color on the last day of camp!

Join us for an end-of-summer bonus week featuring fun and games in the art museum. Warm up by sketching inside and outside of the museum. Stretch your art endurance as you try drawing, painting, and sculpture. Take your imagination and your skills to the next level as you participate in fun art challenges. These activities will be a cool cool-down after a summer full of art camp fun.
