Design a house and learn how you can protect the earth at the same time! Challenge yourself to conserve water, capture solar energy, and use only renewable materials as you design the house of your dreams! You’ll find inspiration by visiting the galleries and the Intelligent Workplace at CMU’s School of Architecture, and you’ll explore creative ways to design and build your house by using a variety of architectural drawing and model-making methods. Camp includes a trip to Carnegie Mellon University’s Intelligent Workplace.

Design a dream house of the future while exploring green technologies at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Architecture. Learn how smart architecture can conserve natural resources and combine this new knowledge with design inspiration from the galleries to create an environmentally conscious home. Through the use of 3D modeling software and more, you’ll build new skills, unlock your creativity as a green designer, and build your architecture portfolio. This workshop meets on Carnegie Mellon’s campus and uses CMU’s digital studio. Students will make regular walking trips to Carnegie Museum of Art.

Become an architect for animals, a designer for dolls, or a carpenter for cuddly things! From the grandeur of the Hall of Architecture to the museum’s exquisite miniatures and furniture collection, finding ideas to shape the ideal environment for your toy is easy. Go on a quest to find animals in their habitats and read stories to find more inspiration. Draw sketches, design floor plans, create models, and then build a tiny home for your favorite toy. Your toys receive their very own key to their new homes on the last day of camp!

Take a tour of places around Oakland, including CMU’s School of Architecture, and learn how art and technology combine to create sustainable buildings and landscapes. Find inspiration in the museum’s galleries for your own earth-friendly designs and then work as a team to design and build a model eco-city from the ground up. Camp includes a trip to Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture.

Travel to the future and make art and architecture inspired by an imagined future world. Think creatively about the world you know to create landscapes, architecture, clothing, and games that people of the future might inhabit, wear, and use. Catch a glimpse of futuristic landscapes and architecture in the museum’s galleries, then return to the present on the last day of camp to share your future paintings, drawings, and sculptures with your family and friends. Camp includes a trip to Carnegie Mellon University’s digital fabrication laboratory.

How is it different from or similar to the world you live in on Earth? Study the work of award-winning architects in the galleries for interesting shapes, colors, and materials to incorporate into your design. Camp includes a visit to Carnegie Mellon University’s Intelligent Workplace.
