What responsibilities do architects have to their communities? How do architects work to address social injustice through their designs? Explore the design of temporary structures like the annual Serpentine Gallery pavilion or architecture that can respond to immediate needs, such as refugee housing. Explore the use of cutting-edge materials that address environmental concerns like pollution absorbing bricks and new ways of using renewable materials like cardboard and plants. Learn about the creation of inclusive landscapes while developing skills in drawing architectural plans and sections and try your hand at model-making. Use these projects to build a portfolio and demonstrate new skills and problem solving. This workshop meets on Carnegie Mellon’s campus. Students will make regular walking trips to Carnegie Museum of Art.
