Inspired by this work, campers will map out a journey of their own, creating a traveler's guide and models of stops taken along the route. Where will travelers rest? What is the landscape like? Are you fascinated by the possibilities of life on other planets? Making plans for that future reality requires the creative thinking of both artists and scientists, and that means you! Spend a week combining what we know from science with the speculative and creative thinking process of artists to invent what humans will need to eat, sleep, work, and play in worlds we can only imagine. Learn the strategies of design thinking to iterate concepts for what buildings and cities will look like, what our smart clothing will do, and how we will travel around a planet that’s not at all like earth.

Printmaking is a way of making multiple versions of your original image, sometimes making subtle changes from one to the next. Find inspiration in the exhibition Hiroshige’s Tokaido Road and in the museum’s galleries. Learn historical techniques like etching and modern processes like silkscreen. Reuse printed materials to create brand new artworks. Experiment with the printing press to create works in a series.

Observe works of art in the galleries for ideas, hypothesize some ""what-ifs""—then head to the lab for experimentation. Whether your goal is to capture the world around you with accuracy or create expressive compositions with abstract marks, textures, and pattern, this workshop offers guidance and exercises designed to strengthen your skills.
