Discover more about your favorite dinosaurs! Get an up-close look at real fossils in the Kamin Hall of Dinosaurs. Find out where these big bones came from and learn all about prehistoric animals. Dig for replica bones like a real paleontologist, make fossil casts, and study authentic dinosaur specimens. Learn about the creatures that roamed with the dinosaurs —early mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects.

This half-day camp keeps pace with active 4- and 5-year-olds and includes a mid-session snack.
Please note: Pre-camp and post-camp care are not available for half-day campers (ages 4–5).

A summer camp adventure 66 million years in the making! Piece together prehistoric evidence as you investigate how dinosaurs lived and why they died. Extract DNA from modern-day relatives of dinosaurs. Trek through the Kamin Hall of Dinosaurs and nearby Schenley Park to compare today’s world to that of the dinosaurs. Build a habitat, complete with life-size dinosaur murals, to transform your classroom into Jurassic Planet.

Enter the world of the dinosaurs as you dive into prehistoric ecosystems in the Kamin Hall of Dinosaurs. Perform hands-on investigations with mud, rocks, minerals, and fossils. Compare the skulls and teeth of predators and prey, and learn how dinosaurs digested food. Study specimens and predict colors and patterns of dinosaur skin. Watch your own dinosaur adaptations evolve as you create a “Me-a-saurus.”

Piece together a prehistoric mystery as you explore the science of paleontology. Map and excavate a mock dig site, wrap your finds in plaster fossil jackets, and transport them to the classroom. Build hands-on fossil prep skills by reconstructing discoveries and analyzing bones. Build your knowledge of rocks, elements, volcanoes, and more as you explore the geology of Minecraft in the real world. Discover the different types of rocks and how they form, plus search the museum for favorite Minecraft minerals. Investigate the science behind volcanoes and lava flow, and learn about real-life uses of coal, ores, metals, and more.

Please note: We value hands-on, real-world experiences for our campers. This camp is Minecraft themed, but campers should not expect to play Minecraft on tech devices during camp.

Adventure out into the wild and search for treasure in the forest, meadow, and stream! Hone your observation skills and seek out oddities to amass into a creative collection. Learn how to use a metal detector, press plants, and recycle collected items to leave no trace in nature. This camp will keep you active while using your creativity to turn trash to treasure!

Powdermill Nature Reserve is located 60 miles outside of Pittsburgh in Rector, PA. Transportation is not provided between the museum and Powdermill; all camp families are expected to provide their own transportation to camp.
